Ariadne’s thread.

This work is based on the story of Ariadne and Theseus. Ariadne was the daughter of King Minos of Crete, owner of the labyrinth constructed by Daedelus. Theseus went to Crete to slay the Minotaur living inside the labyrinth. Ariadne fell in love with Theseus and worried that he wouldn't be able to find his way out of the labyrinth so she gave him a ball of thread to unravel as he walked leaving a trail for him to follow.

The couple then fled and left for the island of Crete. While Ariadne was sleeping, Theseus ran off with another woman. Crushed when she discovered the betrayal, Ariadne, after a long cry, decided to dance her sorrow away. Dionysos saw her and fell in love and made her his bride. He placed a diadem on her head which still shines today as the Corona Borealis.
